Laser engraving, which is a subset of laser marking, is the practice of using lasers to engrave an object. The impact of laser marking has been more pronounced for specially designed "laser-able" materials and also for some paints. These include laser-sensitive polymers and novel metal alloys.
To create these images I had to get a image online that I wanted to use and open that image in Adobe Illustrator. Then I needed to outline the image in either blue or red. The cardboard Woolly mammoth needed to be completely red because the image had to all be cut out in order to construct it. In order for the laser to cut through the material, you needed to make the line 0.0001. A majority of the lines needed to be blue because the blue lines were not cut through but just engraved.

From working on the laser engraver, I have learned its many uses and how to operate this amazing machine. Not only can this machine be used to engrave but also to cut things out completely in a variety of materials. This amazed me because I thought that was only possible in movies but we have it right in out school.
